Schedule
The DIT position can take you all over the country, so it is key to be willing to travel and work off hours, which can include nights, and overtime when necessary and can vary constantly. These hours and work days will be tied to each production's shooting schedule.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Metadata Cine is looking for DITs with technical ability and creative qualities to ensure and collaborate with the artistic vision of the Director of Photography for the benefit of the quality of the filmed project.
MAIN TASKS:
- Supervision on the digital image on set in its different aspects (looks, contrast, saturation, saturation, exposure, etc.).
- Testing of equipment to be used during pre-production to ensure optimal performance during shooting.
- Calibration of monitors for critical color reference.
- Configuration of wireless signal transmitters such as Teradek among others.
- Design digital image workflows prior to shooting during the pre-production stage, according to the demands and needs of each project.
- Design LUTs (Look Up Tables) and/or CDLs according to the needs and vision of the Director of Photography.
- Control camera exposure with remote control as required by the Director of Photography.
- Deliver daily LUTs designed and applied on set to the Dailies Lab to be processed along with the footage.
- Create a folder of LUTs and CDLs created during the project duly organized and named for subsequent delivery to the corresponding departments.
- Make quick and effective evaluations by observing the different scopes tools.
- Perform quick and effective image correction to suit different lighting situations during the shoot using tools such as Livegrade and DaVinci Resolve among others.
- Oversee camera settings and adjustments and ensure consistency throughout the shoot as specified by the camera department and director of photography.
- Oversee the correct color representation and consistency on the different display devices on set, this includes reference monitors, director's monitors, iPads, handheld monitors among others.
- Distribute signal to monitors with image color corrected or LUT applied.
- Establish effective communication with the camera department, lighting dept. and director of photography to know the needs in terms of results of each department and thus ensure compliance from your position.
- Deliver equipment in an organized manner at the end of the project ensuring its organization, cleanliness, operation and good presentation.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE:
- Experience as a DIT in previous and recent projects.
- Experience in the design and application of LUTs and CDLs both digitally and on camera.
- Experience in live color correction on set.
- Experience with color grading and color monitoring software such as Livegrade, DaVinci Resolve among others.
- Knowledge of multiple camera filters.
- Knowledge of image input and output (IO) devices such as DeltaCast, Blackmagic, AJA, etc.
- Experience with wireless transmission systems such as Teradek.
- Experience with monitor calibration.
- Extensive knowledge of digital imaging and photography, as well as digital camera systems.
- Extensive knowledge of digital photography concepts (ISO, exposure, Color Spaces, Color Management, dynamic range, resolution, compression, framerate, bit depth, looks, LUTs, etc.).
- Experience in digital image quality control using digital signal tools such as scopes.
- Experience in backup and redundancy systems, RAIDs, etc.
- Analytical and troubleshooting skills are a must as well as the ability to find quick solutions to immediate problems caused by both hardware and software.
- Agility and great ability to adapt to complicated scenarios.
- Excellent work ethic and positive attitude.
- Ability to work in a team and under pressure and to remain calm in a fast-paced work environment.
- Great leadership capacity both on the filming set and in the logistics and project planning processes.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong customer-facing skills.
- Effective communicator, both written and verbal.
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills are a must.
